SARA GROTH, MA, LCPC

Clinical Supervisor,

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, SHE/HER

Sara Groth is Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (IL license #180.015945) as well as a Certified Sex Therapist (CST) through the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, & Therapists (AASECT). Sara studied Psychology & Spanish with a minor in Social Work at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before getting her master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Ball State University.

In her work with individuals and relationships, she specializes in queer-affirming care, sexual trauma, relationship conflict, sexual pain & dysfunction, mismatched sexual desire, coming out & transitioning, anxiety, and depression. While she uses an eclectic approach, Sara draws most of her approach from Existential-Humanistic Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-based exercises. Sara has received Gottman Level 2 training as well as hundreds of hours of education in sex therapy and sexual wellness.

Sara prioritizes creating open and collaborative relationships with clients, where the power dynamics inherent to healthcare relationships are named and challenged. She understands the importance of empowering clients to make their own decisions and creating genuine therapeutic relationships built on transparency. As a forever student, Sara aims to continuously learn how to be a better ally to marginalized communities – including both communities she is and is not a part of.

Outside of her clinical practice, Sara enjoys reading novels and manga alike, expanding her tea collection, playing tabletops & painting minis, acting in community theatre, and curling up with her co-therapist cat.
